6 Reasons People Feel Lost

1. Our sense of self is distorted

People who feel lost in life don’t like themselves very much.
They tend to have a distorted sense of self that keeps them from appreciating their own beauty, intelligence and worth.
All they seem to see is how inferior, unworthy or insignificant they are.
Spend more time with yourself to figure out who you really are and what brings you real  happiness.

Socrates says, as he did in Phaedrus, that people make themselves appear ridiculous when they are trying to know obscure things before they know themselves.
So, self discovery is the path to understand the things that make you truly happy and excited about life.

2.  We surround themselves with people who drag us down

Spending time with the wrong people is another reason why so many people feel lost in life.
When you surround yourself with people who are negative, dragging you down, who are constantly whining, blaming, criticizing, gossiping and complaining about everything and everyone, making you feel negative about life, you'll eventually get lost even on your own life's path.

Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself and your life; people who you share common interests with, who make you laugh and make you feel like you are a valued human being.

3. We try to measure up to others’ expectations

People who feel lost in life tend to live their lives based on other people's opinions and judgments.
They value what other people think and they live their lives trying to fit in.
They live their lives following the ideals, thoughts and beliefs handed down to them by their parents, teachers, tradition, friends and even the media.

Stop trying to live up to other people’s expectations, you will never get there anyway.
You may try to be what others want you to be, but it's a losing game.
Your life was meant for you, not for others.
Be true to yourself to be truly happy and contented in life.
Live up to your own expectations.

4. We hold on to ingrained fears and biases

Most self defeating things people tell themselves are based on fear, not reality.
People who feel lost and disconnected in life often unconsciously hold onto fears and negative biases based on old thought conditioning.

Shift your perspective and attitude. Realize that failure is just a discovery of one way that doesn’t work.
It’s an opportunity to try again with more intelligence.
Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid of not wanting to try.

5. We never leave our comfort zone

People begin to feel lost when they only live within their comfort zones.
It's scary for people to push their own boundaries.
We all want to feel safe, but a ship that never leaves the harbor, may be safe, but it never goes anywhere and that is not what ships are built for and either are we.

6. We’ve lost touch with nature
