Along with remembering ancestors, Samhain is also the Celtic New Year, the Gaelic festival that marks the end of the harvest season, the light half of the year and the beginning of the darker half of the year.
The year ends sundown Oct. 30 and begins sundown Oct. 31, which means that 24 hours are outside of time.
